The Launage of Play

Dinalynn Rosenbush, SLP

BIG Feelings are so hard!  It’s confusing! And sometimes really disruptive. Give yourself grace parents, become curious.  What if we could understand how our child felt by looking at the color that they chose to wear?  Wouldn’t that be amazing and helpful?!! Today’s guest decided to combine her child’s interests with colors to create a way to help him communicate better after an acquired language loss.  You will learn her story and how she helped her little one regain a way to communicate better again.

Many times we as parents want to get our kids out of their icky feelings. The reality is that we want our children to walk through their feelings and to feel their feelings. This is an important part to learning self-regulation. We must allow our children to experience their feelings.

Constance Lewis shares her story and the children’s book she wrote to support all children.

The Young Dad Podcast

Today’s guests are Constance Lewis and Andre Lewis, co-creators of Miles and the Colorful Capes of Feelings—a children’s book inspired by her son Miles’ journey through brain surgery and medical challenges. Constance and her husband Andre turned their family’s experience into a movement to help children understand and express their emotions through color-coded capes. A women’s health nurse practitioner by profession and a mother of three, Constance brings heart, story, and science into how we raise emotionally strong children. This episode is for parents navigating big emotions, caregivers who want practical tools, and anyone passionate about building emotional intelligence in the next generation.

Today's guest, Constance Lewis, created Miles and His Colorful Capes of Feelings. Inspired by her journey parenting a child with complex medical needs, Constance turned everyday parenting chaos into a creative, color-coded system that helps kids name and navigate their emotions—while giving parents tools to connect in the moment. This isn’t just about saying “Use your words.” It’s about helping kids feel truly seen, heard, and understood—and building emotional intelligence that lasts a lifetime.
